The Subaltern - a tribute to Uncle Jack Charles

Vale Uncle Jack Charles. The Boon Wurrung, Dja Dja Wurrung, Woiwurrung and Taungurung man died at the age of 79 earlier this month. As a mighty subaltern in Literature, I have great respect for this giant of post-colonial Australia. His texts have changed our perspective on our First Nations' plight here. Unfortunately, these souls that need to whiten themselves in order to be heard in this country, often lose far more than we can empathise. I wanted to honour him, red eyed, determined, strategic in his amiability and powerful in his colourful and abundantly free love - weary, wise and ready.
